Timing Belt Lower Front Cover Replacement

Special Tools

For equivalent regional tools, refer to  Special Tools : 1.6L LXT

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
2. Remove the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement .



3. Rotate the drive belt tensioner bolt (2) to clockwise.
4. Remove the drive belt (1) while pulling the drive belt tensioner by a suitable tool (3).



5. Remove the engine/transmission bolt (1).



6. Install the EN-6625 holder (2).
7. Install and tighten the engine/transmission bolt (1).



8. Remove and DISCARD the crankshaft pulley bolt (2).
9. Remove the crankshaft pulley (1).



10. Remove the 3 timing belt lower front cover bolts (1).
11. Remove the timing belt lower front cover (2).

1. Install the timing belt lower front cover (2).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

2. Install the 3 timing belt lower front cover bolts (1) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).



3. Install the crankshaft pulley (1) and a NEW bolt (2) with screw locking compound and tighten in 3 passes, using the EN-45059 sensor kit :

3.1.	First pass to 95 N·m (70 lb ft)

3.2.	Second pass to 30°

3.3.	Third pass to 15°




4. Remove the engine/transmission bolt (1).
5. Remove the EN-6625 holder (2).



6. Install the engine/transmission bolt (1) and tighten to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).



7. Rotate the drive belt tensioner bolt (2) to clockwise.
8. Install the drive belt (1) while pulling the tensioner by a suitable tool (3).
9. Rotate the tensioner anticlockwise to tension the drive belt (2).
10. Install the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement .
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Close the bonnet.
