Circuit/System Testing

  1. Clean all of the fuel system lines using brake cleaning solvent, and let dry. For example, the fuel injection pump, the fuel injectors and rail, and supply lines.
  2. Add 236 ml (8 oz) of oil dye to the fuel tank.
  3. Start and idle the engine for 3-5 min.
  4. Note: A fuel leak may be caused by a restricted fuel return line.

  5. Inspect for fuel leaks around the fuel injection pump, fuel rails, and fuel supply lines with a GE 42220 Universal 12 V Leak Detection Lamp. A fuel leak should not exist.
  6. If a fuel leak is located, tighten or replace any leaking lines or components.
