This ignition system uses individual ignition coil assemblies for each cylinder. The engine control module (ECM) controls the individual coils by transmitting timing pulses on the ignition control circuit of each ignition coil to enable a spark event. When the engine is running the ECM monitors each Ignition Coil circuit for improper voltage levels. Each ignition coil has the following circuits:
• | Ignition voltage |
• | Ground |
• | Ignition control for each coil |
• | Low reference |
• | The engine speed is less than 6000 RPM. |
• | The ignition voltage is between 9-18 V. |
• | DTCs P2300 00, P2301 00, P2303, P2304 00, P2306 00, P2307 00, P2309 00, P2310 00 run continuously when the above conditions are met. |
• | The ECM detects a short to ground on the circuit or the ignition coil for greater than 4 s continuously or 50 s cumulative. |
OR |
• | The ECM detects a short to voltage on the circuit or the ignition coil for greater than 4 s continuously or 50 s cumulative. |
DTCs P2120 00, P2122 00, P2123 00, P2125 00, P2127 00, P2128 00, and P2138 00 are Type A DTCs.

⇒ | If a fault is found, repair the circuit as needed. |
⇒ | If the DTC or the misfire transfers with the suspect ignition coil/module, replace T8 Ignition Coil. |
⇒ | If the DTC or the misfire does not transfer with the suspect T8 Ignition Coil module, replace the K20 Engine Control Module. |
