Circuit/System Description

This diagnostic applies to internal microprocessor integrity conditions within the engine control module (ECM) and the throttle actuator control (TAC) system. This diagnostic also addresses if the ECM is not programmed.

The ECM monitors its ability to read and write to the memory. It also monitors a timing function. The ECM and the TAC processors are used to monitor the TAC system data. Both processors monitor the other processors data to verify that the indicated accelerator pedal position (APP) calculation is correct. The ECM performs an intrusive test in order to confirm that the APP signals are not shorted together. The ECM accomplishes this by pulling the APP sensor 2 low momentarily and looking for sensor 1 to also be pulled low.

Conditions for Running the DTC

P0601 00

    • The ignition switch is in run or crank.
    • The check sum calculation at power-down in the last drive cycle had completely finished.
    • DTC P0601 00 runs once per ignition cycle when the above condition is met.

P0602 00

    • The ignition switch is in run or crank.
    • DTC P0602 00 runs once per ignition cycle.

P0603 00

    • The ignition switch is in run or crank.
    • DTC P0603 00 runs once per ignition cycle.

P0604 00

    • The ignition switch is in run or crank.
    • The read/write test at power-down in the last drive cycle had completely finished.
    • DTC P0604 00 runs once per ignition cycle when the above condition is met.

P0606 00

    • The ignition switch is in the unlock/accessory, run, or crank positions.
    • The system voltage is more than 5.23 V.
    • DTC P0606 00 runs continuously when the above conditions are met.

P062F 00

    • The ignition is in the unlock, accessory, run, or crank position.
    • The system voltage is more than 5.23 V
    • DTCs P062F 00 runs once per ignition cycle.

P16F3 00

    • DTC P0606 00 is not set.
    • The ignition is in the unlock, accessory, run, or crank position.
    • The system voltage is more than 5.23 V
    • DTCs P16F3 00 runs continuously when the above conditions are met.

P2610 00

    • DTCs P0112 00, P0113 00, or P0114 00 are not set.
    • The ignition is OFF.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Observe the DTCs with the scan tool.
  2. If DTC P0602 00 is set, attempt to program the K20 Engine Control Module before replacing the K20 Engine Control Module. Refer to Control Module References .
If DTC P0602 00 resets, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
  3. Test the K20 Engine Control Module voltage circuits at ECM connectors terminals 19 and 20 X1, 13 and 28 X2 and test the ground circuit at ECM connector terminal 73 X2 for the following:
  4. • A short
    • An open
    • High resistance
⇒If all circuits test normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
