Transmission Replacement

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
2. Drain the transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement .



3. Remove the clutch housing lower plate bolt (1) and clutch housing lower plate (2).
4. Separate the front wheel drive shaft from the wheel hub. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .
5. After removing the related parts for the powertrain assembly removal, remove the powertrain assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Engine Replacement : with Engine Lifting Device and MT → with CH-49289 and CH-49290 → with EN-49802 and EN-50176 .
6. Disconnect the air conditioning compressor and condenser hose from the air conditioning condenser. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement .



7. Loosen the radiator inlet and outlet hose clamp (1).
8. Disconnect the radiator inlet and outlet hoses (2, 3) and remove the radiator and condenser assembly (4).



9. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector (1) and oxygen sensor connectors (2).
10. Unclip the connectors from the connector bracket.
11. Remove the crankshaft position sensor. Refer to Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement .



12. Disconnect the knock sensor connector (1).
13. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the reverse light switch.
14. Unclip the engine wiring harness from the bracket.



15. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the speedometer driven gear (2).
16. Separate the wiring harness from the transmission.
17. Remove the transmission rear mount bracket. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement .
18. Remove the front wheel drive shaft from the transmission. refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .
19. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement .



20. Remove the transmission upper bolts (1).
21. Remove the transmission lower bolt (2).
22. Remove the transmission lower nut (3).
23. Separate the transmission from the engine.

1. Install the transmission to the engine.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

2. Install the transmission lower nut (3) and tighten to 61 N·m (44 lb ft).
3. Install the transmission lower bolt (2) and tighten to 61 N·m (44 lb ft).
4. Install the transmission upper bolts (1) and tighten to 61 N·m (44 lb ft).
5. Install the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement .
6. Install the front wheel drive shaft to the transmission. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .
7. Install the transmission rear mount bracket. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement .



8. Position the wiring harness into the transmission.
9. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the speedometer driven gear (2).
10. Clip in the engine wiring harness to the bracket.



11. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the reverse light switch.
12. Connect the knock sensor connector (1).
13. Install the crankshaft position sensor. Refer to Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement .



14. Clip in the connectors to the connector bracket.
15. Connect the crankshaft position sensor connector (1) and the oxygen sensor connectors (2).



16. Install the radiator and condenser assembly (4) and connect the radiator inlet and outlet hoses (2, 3).
17. Install the radiator inlet and outlet hose clamp (1).
18. Connect the air conditioning compressor and condenser hose to the air conditioning condenser. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement .
19. Install the powertrain assembly to the vehicle and then install the related parts. Refer to Engine Replacement : with Engine Lifting Device and MT → with CH-49289 and CH-49290 → with EN-49802 and EN-50176 .
20. Install the front wheel drive shaft to the wheel hub. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .



21. Install the clutch housing lower plate (2) and clutch housing lower plate bolts (1) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
22. Fill the transmission with fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement .
23. Adjust the clutch cable. Refer to Clutch Assembly Adjustment .
