Camshaft Timing Chain Replacement and Adjustment

EN-49073 Timing Chain Tensioner Pin
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .
Removal Procedure
- Remove the engine front cover evenly all the way around with a suitable tool. Refer to Engine Front Cover and Oil Pump Removal .
- Install the crankshaft balancer bolt to crankshaft.
- Set engine to TDC. Set crankshaft in direction of engine rotation to cylinder 1 TDC of combustion stroke.
- Align the alignment triangle mark (2) with the crankshaft alignment mark (3).
- Ensure that the mark (1) on both the camshaft sprockets is positioned.
- Remove the timing chain tensioner (3).
- Remove the left timing chain shoe (4).
- Remove the right timing chain guide (1).
- Remove the timing chain.
Installation Procedure
- Ensure that the camshaft lobes (1) are in a neutral position.
- Install the timing chain after aligning both the mark (1) on the camshaft sprocket and on the timing chain.
- Align both the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket and on the timing chain.
- Push the timing chain tensioner lever and fix the lever by installing the EN-49073 timing chain tensioner pin .
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the timing chain guide (1). And tighten the timing chain guide retaining bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the timing chain shoe (4). And tighten the timing chain lever retaining bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the timing chain tensioner (3). And tighten the timing chain tensioner retaining bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover and Oil Pump Removal .
