Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centring

    1761047

Warning: When servicing the steering column, the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System clock spring must be centred for proper steering wheel operation. Failure to properly centre the SIR clock spring may make the steering wheel difficult to turn, causing the vehicle to improperly manoeuvre, and may cause the SIR system to be inoperative.

Caution: Do not rotate the steering wheel or move the position of the steering gear once the intermediate shaft is disconnected. This will move the Inflatable Restraint coil in the steering column off-centre. If the Inflatable Restraint coil is not centred, it may be damaged during vehicle operation.

  1. Turn the front wheels straight ahead.
  2. Turn the lobe of the clock spring clockwise to lock. Do not force.
  3. Turn the lobe of the clock spring counterclockwise approximately 3 turns to the Neutral position, with the front of the wheels straight ahead.
  4. Properly align the pointed marks on the components of the clock spring.
