1. Liftgate Release Switch Malfunction |
The tailgate release switch is an input to the BCM. The BCM monitors the signal circuit and when the release switch is activated the signal circuit voltage goes low. The BCM controls the tailgate release actuator through the tailgate latch release relay. When the release switch signal is activated, the BCM enables the tailgate latch release relay by applying battery voltage to the tailgate latch release relay supply circuit and the relay is energised when the BCM grounds the tailgate latch release relay control circuit. When the relay is energised battery voltage is supplied to the tailgate release actuator through the tailgate release actuator control circuit.
The system voltage is 9-16 volts.
The tailgate release switch signal circuit is active for greater than 10 minutes.
The BCM will ignore the signal input from the tailgate release switch.
• | The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present. |
• | When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will become a history DTC. |
• | A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles |
Before testing can be performed the liftgate must be opened.

Control Module References for scan tool information
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Int. Boot/Liftglass Sw. parameter while pressing and releasing the tailgate release switch. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive.
⇒ | If not the specified parameter, test the signal circuit terminal 2 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM. |
⇒ | If not the specified parameter, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM. |
⇒ | If not the specified value, replace the tailgate release switch. |
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, replace the tailgate release switch. |
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
