Circuit/System Description

The liftglass release switch is an input to the body control module (BCM). The BCM supplies battery voltage to the signal circuit and when the release switch is activated the signal circuit voltage goes low. The BCM controls the liftglass release actuator through the rear wiper motor control module. When the release switch signal is activated the BCM applies battery voltage as a signal through the liftglass latch release control circuit to the rear wiper motor control module. The rear wiper motor control module supplies voltage to the release actuator through the liftglass latch assembly.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Command the Liftglass Release with a scan tool. The tailgate glass latch should release the liftglass.
  2. If the tailgate glass latch does not release the liftglass, refer to Liftglass Latch Assembly Malfunction.
  3. Doors Unlocked, command the liftglass to release by pressing the master window switch. The liftglass actuator should release the liftglass.
  4. If the tailgate glass does not release, refer to Liftglass Master Switch Malfunction.
  5. Insert the key into the tailgate key cylinder switch and command the liftglass to release by turning the key to the release position. The liftglass actuator should release the liftglass.
  6. If the tailgate glass does not release, refer to Tailgate Key Cylinder Switch Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

Liftglass Latch Assembly Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the TAILGATE GLASS relay.
  2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 86 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 30 and ground.
  5. If the test lamp does not illuminate and the B+ fuse is good, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
If the test lamp does not illuminate, and the B+ fuse is open, test the control circuit terminal 87 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the TAILGATE GLASS relay
  6. Disconnect the wiring harness plug at the tailgate glass latch.
  7. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 4 and ground
  8. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  9. Connect the wiring harness plug at the tailgate glass latch.
  10. Connect a 10A fused jumper wire between the B+ circuit terminal 30 and the control circuit terminal 87. Verify the tailgate glass latch is activated.
  11. If the tailgate glass latch does not activate, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the tailgate glass latch.
  12. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 85 and the ground circuit terminal 86.
  13. Command the Liftglass Release ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
  14. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  15. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the TAILGATE GLASS relay

Liftglass Master Switch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the wiring harness plug at the master window switch.
  2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 14 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, test for greater than 10V between the signal circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  5. If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  6. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the master window switch.

Tailgate Key Cylinder Switch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the wiring harness plug at the tailgate key cylinder switch.
  2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.
  6. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the tailgate key cylinder switch.

Component Testing

Liftglass Latch Assembly

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the wiring harness plug at the rear liftglass latch assembly.
  2. Install a 20A fused jumper wire between the control terminal 3 and 12V. Briefly install a jumper wire between the ground terminal 4 and ground. Verify the liftglass actuator activates.
  3. If the actuator does not perform as specified, replace the liftglass latch assembly.

Master Window Switch

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the wiring harness plug at the master window switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal 1 and the ground terminal 14 with the switch in the open position.
  3. If not the specified value, replace the master window switch.
  4. Test for less than 2.0 Ω between the signal terminal 1 and the ground terminal 14 with the switch in the closed position.
  5. If greater than the specified range, replace the master window switch.

Relay Test

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the TAILGATE GLASS relay.
  2. Test for 60-200 Ω between terminals 85 and 86.
  3. If not within the specified range, replace the TAILGATE GLASS relay.
  4. Test for infinite resistance between the following terminals:
  5. • 30 and 86
    • 30 and 87
    • 30 and 85
    • 85 and 87
If less than the specified value, replace the TAILGATE GLASS relay.
  6. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the relay terminal 85 and 12V. Install a jumper wire between relay terminal 86 and ground. Test for less than 2 Ω between terminals 30 and 87.
  7. If greater than specified range, replace the TAILGATE GLASS relay.
