Circuit/System Description

The yaw rate, lateral acceleration, and longitudinal acceleration sensors are combined into one multi-axis acceleration sensor, external to the electronic brake control module. The electronic brake control module supplies a 12 V reference circuit and a low reference circuit to both the steering wheel angle sensor and the multi-axis acceleration sensor.

The vehicle stability enhancement system uses the lateral accelerometer input when calculating the desired yaw rate. The multi-axis acceleration sensor communicates with the electronic brake control module via serial data.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The multi-axis acceleration sensor fails an internal self test.
    • A correlation error between the multi-axis acceleration sensor and the steering wheel angle sensor.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The ABS indicator illuminates.
    • The Traction-Off indicator illuminates.
    • A driver information centre message may be displayed.
    • The electronic brake control module disables the antilock brake system, the traction control system and the electronic stability control for the duration of the ignition cycle.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
    • The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Verify that DTC C0186 4B or C0196 4B is not set.
  2. If the DTC is set, with the scan tool perform the Yaw Rate Sensor Calibration. Refer to Vehicle Yaw Sensor Learn .
  3. Clear DTC and operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC. Verify the DTC does not reset.
  4. If the DTC resets, refer to Circuit/System Testing.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Verify that DTC U1500 00, U2142 00, U2143 00 is not set.
  2. If DTC is set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle .
  3. Verify the B119 multi-axis acceleration sensor is mounted properly.
  4. If not mounted properly, refer Vehicle Yaw Sensor Replacement .
  5. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B119 multi-axis acceleration sensor.
  6. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down. Test for less than 10Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  7. If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K17 electronic brake control module.
  8. Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the 12 V reference circuit terminal 4 and ground.
  9. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the 12 V reference circuit for a short to ground or an open circuit/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K17 electronic brake control module.
  10. If all circuits test normal, replace the B119 multi-axis acceleration sensor.
