Fuel Tank Fuel Pump Module Replacement

J-45722 Fuel Tank Spanner
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Fold the rear seat.
- Lift up the carpet and the insulation.
- Remove the fuel tank fuel pump module access cover (2).
- Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector (1).
- Disconnect the fuel feed line (2) and fuel return line (3) from the fuel pump. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
- Using the J-45722 spanner, remove the cam lock ring (1) by turning anticlockwise.
- Remove the fuel pump module lock ring (1).
Note:
• | Use care when handling the primary/secondary fuel tank module to prevent damage and incorrect fuel level readings. |
• | O-ring should not be contaminated by fuel. |
- Remove the fuel pump module assembly (2) and the O-ring from the fuel tank.
Installation Procedure
- Clean all of the mating surfaces on the both fuel tank module and fuel tank.
Note:
• | Do not reuse the primary or secondary fuel tank module O-rings. |
• | Be sure that the arrow on the primary fuel tank module assembly is aligned with the arrow on the fuel tank. |
• | Be careful not to damage the fuel sender for the correct fuel levelling while removing the fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank. |
- Position the new O-ring and the fuel pump module assembly into the fuel tank.
- Using the J-45722 spanner, install the cam lock ring (1) by turning clockwise.
- Connect the fuel pump module electrical connector (1).
- Connect the fuel feed line (2) and fuel return line (3) to the fuel pump. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service and Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
- Perform the fuel system priming procedure and inspect for leaks. Refer to Fuel System Priming .
- Install the fuel tank fuel pump module access cover (2).
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Reposition the carpeting and fold the rear seat back to the original position.
