Preliminary Procedure

Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement : With 2.4 Engine  → With 3.0 Engine  → With Diesel Engine .

Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Fastener (Qty: 6)

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Procedure

Inspect the engine flex plate for the following:

1. Stress cracks around the engine flex plate.
2. Cracks at welded areas that retain the ring gear onto the engine flex plate.
3. Damaged or missing ring gear teeth .
4. Do not attempt to repair the welded areas that retain the ring gear to the flex plate.
