Warning : Refer to Approved Equipment for Collision Repair Warning in the Preface section.

Warning : Refer to Collision Sectioning Warning in the Preface section.

Warning : Refer to Glass and Sheet Metal Handling Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR System. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  3. Remove all related panels and components.
  4. Visually inspect the damage. Repair as much of the damage as possible.
  5. Remove the sealers and anti-corrosion materials from the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair .

  6. 2027450
  7. Create cut lines on the body lock pillar outer panel.

  8. 2027451

Note : Do not damage any inner panels or reinforcements.

  9. Cut the panel where sectioning is to be performed.

  10. 2027452
  11. Locate and mark all the necessary factory welds of the body lock pillar outer panel.
  12. Drill all factory welds.

  14. Remove the damaged body lock pillar outer panel.

Installation Procedure

    2027455
  1. Cut the body lock pillar outer panel in corresponding locations to fit the remaining original panel. The sectioning joint should be trimmed to allow a gap of one-and-one-half-times the metal thickness at the sectioning joint.
  2. Prepare all mating surfaces as necessary.
  3. Align the body lock pillar outer panel.

  4. 2027456
  5. Create 6 x 20 mm (4/16 x 12/16 in) slots for MIG-brazing in locations where you can not apply a resistance spot welder.
  6. Clean and prepare the attaching surfaces for spot welding and brazing.
  7. Note : In MIG-brazing areas 50 mm (2 in) must be kept clear of structural adhesive.

  8. Apply structural adhesive to all attaching surfaces.

  9. 2027454
  10. Position the body lock pillar outer panel on the vehicle.
  11. Verify the fit of the body lock pillar outer panel.
  12. Clamp the body lock pillar outer panel into position.

  13. 2188944
  14. Spot weld accordingly.

  15. 2027453
  16. Braze accordingly.
  17. To create a solid braze with minimum heat distortion, make 25 mm (1 in) stitch brazes along the seam with 25 mm (1 in) gaps between them. Then go back and complete the stitch braze.
  18. Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair .
  19. Paint the repaired area. Refer to Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems .
  20. Install all related panels and components.
  21. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  22. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
