Verify that power steering fluid leaks are present.

Is the power steering system leaking?

Inspect the power steering system fittings.

Are the fittings leaking?

Go to Step 7

Inspect the power steering hoses/pipes.

Are the hoses/pipes leaking?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 5

Inspect the power steering pump and the reservoir for leaks.

Is the power steering pump or reservoir leaking?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 6

Inspect the power steering pump, reservoir and pump drive shaft for leaks.

Is the power steering pump, reservoir or pump drive shaft leaking?

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 8

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten the fittings. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 11

Replace the power steering hoses/pipes. Refer to the appropriate procedure(s):

    • Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Outlet Hose Replacement .
    • Refer to Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement .
    • Refer to Power Steering Gear Outlet Pipe/Hose Replacement .

Did you complete the repair?

Replace the power steering pump or reservoir or pump drive shaft seal. Refer to the appropriate procedure(s):

    • Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
    • Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .

Replace the power steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .
