Upper Sump Replacement
Removal Procedure
- Remove the oil level indicator.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the front compartment insulator. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement .
- Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
- Remove the lower sump. Refer to Lower Sump Replacement .
- Remove the exhaust front pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement .
- Remove the front wheel drive intermediate shaft bracket. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Bracket Replacement .
- Disconnect the engine oil level indicator wiring harness plug (1) from the engine oil level indicator (2).
- Remove 3 upper sump retaining bolts (1).
- Remove 14 upper sump retaining bolts (2, 3).
Note: Carefully detach from engine block using suitable tool. Do not damage sealing surfaces.
- Remove the sump (1).
Installation Procedure
- Clean the sealing surfaces.
Note: The complete installation procedure of the camshaft guide should be done in 10 minutes.
Note: Do not coat sealing compound on the sump bolt holes and threads.
- Apply sealing compound on sealant line (1).
- Install the upper oil sump (1).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install 14 upper sump retaining bolts (2, 3) and tighten evenly to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install 3 upper sump retaining bolts (1) and tighten to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
- Connect the engine oil level indicator wiring harness plug (1) to the engine oil level indicator (2).
- Install the front wheel drive intermediate shaft bracket. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Bracket Replacement .
- Install the exhaust front pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement .
- Install the lower sump. Refer to Lower Sump Replacement .
- Install the front compartment insulator. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement .
- Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Install the oil level indicator .
- Fill the engine with engine oil. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
