Traction Control/Stability Control Indicator Malfunction

Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    • Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

Circuit/System Description

The instrument cluster illuminates the traction control/stability control active Indicator, traction control off Indicator and stability control off Indicator during the bulb check and when requested by the electronic brake control module (EBCM) or body control module (BCM) via serial data.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON.
  2. Verify, that the Traction Control/Stability Control-Active indicator, Traction Control Off Indicator and the Stability Control Off Indicator illuminate briefly and then stay OFF.
  3. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  4. If either indicator does not illuminate briefly and then stays OFF

    Refer to Circuit/System Testing below.

  5. [/ARW-LISTFAIL][ARW-LISTPASS]
  6. If the indicators do illuminate briefly and then stay off

  7. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  8. Verification complete. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF. Disconnect the harness connector at the P16 Instrument Cluster.
  2. Note: It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.

  3. Ignition ON. Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit connector terminal 16 and ground.
  4. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  5. If 10 Ω or greater

  6. [/ARW-LISTFAIL]
    2.1. Ignition OFF.
2.2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the ground circuit end to end.
    [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  7. If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

  8. If less than 2 Ω, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.

  9. [/ARW-LISTFAIL] [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  10. If less than 10 Ω

  11. [/ARW-LISTFAIL]
  12. Verify a test lamp illuminates between B+ circuit connector terminal 32 and ground.
  13. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  14. If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is good

  15. [/ARW-LISTFAIL]
    3.1. Ignition OFF.
3.2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the B+ circuit end to end.
    [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  16. If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

  17. If less than 2 Ω, verify the fuse is not open and there is voltage at the fuse.

  18. [/ARW-LISTFAIL] [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  19. If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is open

  20. [/ARW-LISTFAIL]
    3.1. Ignition OFF.
3.2. Test for infinite resistance between the B+ circuit and ground.
    [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  21. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground in the circuit.

  22. If infinite resistance, replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.

  23. [/ARW-LISTFAIL] [ARW-LISTPASS]
  24. If the test lamp does illuminate

  25. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  26. Verify a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 31 and ground.
  27. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  28. If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is good

  29. [/ARW-LISTFAIL]
    4.1. Ignition OFF.
4.2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the ignition circuit end to end.
    [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  30. If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

  31. If less than 2 Ω, verify the fuse is not open and there is voltage at the fuse.

  32. [/ARW-LISTFAIL] [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  33. If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is open

  34. [/ARW-LISTFAIL]
    4.1. Ignition OFF.
4.2. Test for less infinite resistance between the ignition circuit and ground.
    [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  35. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground in the circuit.

  36. If infinite resistance, replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.

  37. [/ARW-LISTFAIL] [ARW-LISTPASS]
  38. If the test lamp does illuminate

  39. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  40. Replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.
