This is a capacitive proximity sensor on the exterior of the driver door handle. It allows the user to lock the door by pressing a small rectangle on the outside of the door handle if a key is detected leaving the vehicle.

This switch begins the challenge and response to determine if the rear closure should be unlatched. If the vehicle responds correctly to the challenge, the rear tailgate will be unlatched.
