SEAT BELTS

Caution : Disconnect the negative battery cable before removing or installing any electrical unit or when a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with exposed electrical terminals. Disconnecting this cable will help prevent personal injury and damage to the vehicle. The ignition must also be in LOCK unless otherwise noted.

  2. With a scan tool, observe the Driver Seat Belt Status parameter in the SIR scan tool data list.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the SDM wiring connector. Refer to Section 8B, Supplemental Inflatable Restraints (SIR).
  3. Disconnect the driver seat belt switch connector.
  4. Check for an open between the signal and low reference circuit of driver seat belt switch.

Three-Point ELR Front Seat Belt

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the cap to reveal the lower seat belt anchor.
  2. Remove the bolt and the lower seat belt anchor.

  4. Remove the center pillar lower garnish molding. Refer to Section 9G, Interior Trim.
  5. Remove the plastic cap to reveal the upper seat belt anchor.
  6. Remove the screws and the seat belt guide.
  7. Remove the bolt and the upper seat belt anchor.

  9. Remove the screw from the seat belt retractor bracket.
  10. Remove the bolt and the seat belt retractor.

Installation Procedure

    Caution : Failure to install the correct retractor screw can cause the pretensioner seat belt to malfunction in an accident, possibly resulting in personal injury.

    Notice : Dissimilar metals in direct contact with each other may corrode rapidly. Make sure to use the correct fasteners to prevent premature corrosion.

  1. Install the seat belt retractor with the bolt and screw.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the seat belt retractor bolt to 38 N•m (28 lb-ft).
    Tighten the seat belt retractor screw to 10 N•m (7 lb-ft).

  3. Install the upper seat belt anchor with the bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the seat belt anchor bolt to 38 N•m (28 lb-ft).

  5. Install the seat belt guide with the screws.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the seat belt guide screws to 3 N•m (27 lb-in).

  7. Install the seat belt anchor plastic cap.

  9. Install the center pillar lower garnish molding. Refer to Section 9G, Interior Trim.
  10. Install the lower seat belt anchor with the bolt.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the seat belt anchor bolt to 38 N•m (28 lb-ft).

  12. Install the seat belt anchor cap.

Front Seat Belt Height Adjuster

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the center pillar upper garnish molding. Refer to Section 9G, Interior Trim.
  2. Remove the bolts and the seat belt height adjuster.

Installation Procedure

  2. Remove the quarter window garnish molding. Refer to Section 9G, Interior Trim.

Pretensioner Front Seat Belt Buckle

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the front seat assembly. Refer to Section 9H, Seats.

  4. Remove the screws and the seat belt buckle cover panel.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  6. Remove the bolt and the seat belt buckle pretensioer.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the seat belt buckle pretensioner with the bolt.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the seat belt buckle bolt to 38 N•m (28 lb-ft).

  3. Connect the electrical connectors.

  5. Install the seat belt buckle cover panel with the screws.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the front seat belt buckle cover panel screw to 3 N•m (27 lb-in).

  7. Install the front seat assembly. Refer to Section 9H, Seats.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.

Rear Left and Center Buckle or Seat Belt (Folding Seat)

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the bolts and load floor front compartment.
  2. Fold the rear left seatback forward by using folding lever.

  4. Release the seat lock by pushing the lever forward on both seat legs.
  5. Fold the rear left seat assembly forward.

    Tighten the seat cover screws to 3 N•m (27 lb-in).

Rear Left and Center Seat Belt Buckle (Double Folding Seat)

Removal Procedure

  1. Fold the rear left seat assembly forward by using folding lever.

  2. Tighten
    Tighten the seat belt buckle bolt to 38 N•m (28 lb-ft).

  4. Tighten
    Tighten the rear seat cover screws to 3 N•m (27 lb-in).

Rear Right Seat Belt Buckle (Folding Seat)

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the bolts and load floor front compartment.
  2. Fold the rear right seatback forward by using folding lever.

  5. Fold the rear right seat assembly forward.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND SYSTEM OPERATION

Driver and Passenger Seat Belt Reminder

The seat belt reminder system is a system alerting with sound and light when the seat belt is unbelted.
The severity of warning level depends on the vehicle status and is signalized for driver with an seat belt warning lamp and chime.
The seat belt reminder after this will follow the below process according to vehicle status.

    1. Initial Test: Operate regardless of passenger seated.
    2. If the seat belt is buckled regardless of ignition status, warning lamp and chime will turn off at once.

Pretensioner Front Seat Belt Buckle

The pretensioner front seat belt buckle contains a mechanically controlled pyrotechnical piston which reduces the seat belt slack when it is activated in a head-on or angled front collision. The pretensioner front seat belt buckle must be replaced after an accident that causes its activation.

Three-Point ELR Seat Belt

The three-point emergency locking retractor (ELR) seat belt is always unlocked, allowing the passenger freedom of movement, except in emergencies (rapid deceleration, rapid acceleration, or hard cornering maneuvers).

Two-Point LAP Rear Center Seat Belt

The two-point lap rear center seat belt is a single continuous length of webbing. The webbing is routed from the anchor through a latch plate and into a single retractor.

Operational and Functional Checks

Caution :
  1. Inspect all seat belt anchor bolts and the screws in order to verify that they are secure.
  2. Inspect the seat belt buckle. The buckle must lock and unlock easily.
  3. After inserting the latch into the buckle, tug sharply on the belt. The buckle must remain locked.
  4. Fully extend the shoulder belt portion to make sure that there is no twisting or tears in the belt.
  5. Let the shoulder belt retract fully. The belt should retract easily.
