Sump Replacement

1. Open the bonnet.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
3. Place a drain pan below the vehicle.
4. Remove the oil drain bolt.
5. Collect the engine oil.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

6. Install the NEW seal ring and the oil drain bolt, tighten to 14 N·m (124 lb in).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Remove the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement : 1.6L LDE, LXV, 1.8L 2H0, and LUW
9. Raise and support the vehicle.
10. Remove the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement
11. Remove the exhaust front pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → LDE,LLU,LXT,LXV,L2W,2H0



12. Remove the 3 sump bolts (1, 2) from the transmission.




Note: Remove the sump evenly all the way around with a suitable tool.

13. Remove the 15 sump bolts (1) and remove the sump (2).




Note: Use a screwdriver or another suitable tool.

14. To prevent damage to the oil screen, ensure that the oil screen (2) remains in the sump (3). If the oil screen gets caught on the cylinder block (1), push it into the sump.
15. Remove the sump.

1. Clean the sealing surfaces.



2. Apply an approximately 3.5 mm (0.14 in) thick bead of sump sealant to the joints (arrows).




Note: The assembly time including torque check must take no longer than 10 minutes.

3. Apply an approximately 3.5 mm (0.14 in) thick bead of sump sealant (1) as illustrated.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




4. Install the 15 sump bolts (1) to the sump (2) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).



5. Install the 3 sump bolts (1, 2) to the transmission and tighten to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
6. Install the exhaust front pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → LDE,LLU,LXT,LXV,L2W,2H0
7. Install the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Install the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement : 1.6L LDE, LXV, 1.8L 2H0, and LUW

Note: Inspect the engine oil level and correct if necessary.

10. Refill the engine oil.
11. Close the bonnet.
