Turbocharger Replacement

1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe bracket bolt (1).
2. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe clamp (2).
3. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe (3) from the turbocharger.
4. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement : 1.4L LUH and LUJ → 1.6L LXT,L2W → 1.6L LDE, LXV, 1.8L 2H0, and LUW → 2.0L Diesel LLW .



5. Remove the turbocharger oil feed pipe bolt (1).
6. Remove the 2 turbocharger oil feed pipe bolt gaskets (5).
7. Raise the vehicle by its full height. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
8. Remove the turbocharger oil feed pipe bolt (3).
9. Remove the 2 turbocharger oil feed pipe bolt gaskets (2).



10. Remove the charge air cooler inlet air tube bolt (4).
11. Remove the 2 hose clamps (3).
12. Remove the 3 air charge air cooler inlet air tube bolts (1).
13. Remove the charge air cooler inlet air tube (2).



14. Remove the 2 turbocharger oil return hose clamps (1, 2).
15. Remove the turbocharger oil return hose (3).
16. Lower the vehicle by its full height. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .



17. Remove and DISCARD the turbocharger upper nut (1).
18. Remove and DISCARD the 2 turbocharger lower nuts (4).
19. Remove the turbocharger (2).
20. Remove the turbocharger gasket (3).
21. Disassemble the turbocharger. Refer to Turbocharger Disassemble .

1. Assemble the turbocharger. Refer to Turbocharger Assemble .




Note: Ensure that the turbocharger surface and the exhaust manifold surface are clear of old gasket material and rust.

2. Install a NEW turbocharger gasket (3).
3. Install the turbocharger (2).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

4. Install 2 NEW turbocharger lower nuts (4) and tighten to 34 N·m (26 lb ft).
5. Install the NEW turbocharger upper (1) nut and tighten to 34 N·m (26 lb ft).
6. Raise the vehicle by its full height. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .



7. Install the turbocharger oil return hose (3).
8. Install the 2 turbocharger oil return hose clamps (1, 2).



9. Install the charge air cooler inlet air tube (2).
10. Install the 3 charge air cooler inlet air tube bolts (1) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
11. Install the 2 hose clamps (3).
12. Install the charge air cooler inlet air tube bolt (4) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).



13. Install the turbocharger oil feed pipe (4).
14. Install NEW turbocharger oil feed pipe bolt gaskets (2).
15. Install the turbocharger oil feed pipe bolt (3) and tighten to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).
16. Lower the vehicle by its full height. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
17. Install NEW turbocharger oil feed pipe bolt gaskets (5).
18. Install the turbocharger oil feed pipe bolt (1) and tighten to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).
19. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement : 1.4L LUH and LUJ → 1.6L LXT,L2W → 1.6L LDE, LXV, 1.8L 2H0, and LUW → 2.0L Diesel LLW .



20. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe (3) to the turbocharger.
21. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe clamp (2).
22. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe bracket bolt (1) and tighten to 5 N·m (45 lb in).
