Cylinder Head Replacement

Special Tools

EN-45059 Torque Angle Sensor Kit.

For equivalent regional tools, Refer to Special Tools : 1.6L LXT .

1. Open the bonnet.
2. Remove the camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement .
3. Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → 1.6L LXT,L2W → 2.0L Diesel LLW → 1.6L LDE, LXV, 1.8L 2H0, and LUW .
4. Remove the timing belt rear cover. Refer to Timing Belt Rear Cover Replacement .
5. Remove the engine coolant thermostat. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → 1.6L LXT,L2W → 2.0L Diesel LLW → 1.6L LDE, LXV, LUW, 2H0 .
6. Remove the generator adjust bracket. Refer to Generator Adjust Bracket Removal .
7. Remove the inlet manifold brace. Refer to Inlet Manifold Brace Removal .



8. Remove and DISCARD the 10 cylinder head bolts in sequence as shown.

8.1.	Loosen the 10 bolts 90°.

8.2.	Loosen the 10 bolts 180°.

Note: A second technician is required.

9. Remove the cylinder head and place on a suitable base.
10. Remove the cylinder head gasket.
11. Remove the inlet manifold from the cylinder head. Refer to Inlet Manifold Removal .
12. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation adapter. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Adapter Replacement .
13. Remove the ignition coil. Refer to Ignition Coil Removal .



14. Remove the 3 ignition coil bracket bolts (2).
15. Remove the ignition coil bracket (1).
16. For cylinder head disassemble. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble .

1. For cylinder head assemble. Refer to Cylinder Head Assemble .



2. Install the ignition coil bracket (1).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

3. Install the 3 ignition coil bracket bolts (2) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
4. Remove the ignition coil. Refer to Ignition Coil Installation .
5. Install the exhaust gas recirculation adapter. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Adapter Replacement .
6. Remove the inlet manifold to the cylinder head. Refer to Inlet Manifold Installation .
7. Clean the sealing surfaces.
8. Inspect for plane surface.

•	Cylinder block, cylinder head

•	Use a straight-edge

9. Install the cylinder head gasket.

Note: A second technician is required.

10. Install the cylinder head.

Caution: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution in the Preface section.





Note: Note the correct tightening sequence.

11. Install the NEW cylinder head bolts.
12. Tighten the bolts in 5 passes. Use the EN-45059 sensor kit.

•	First pass to 25 N·m (18 lb ft)

•	Second pass to 60°

•	Third pass to 60°.

•	Fourth pass to 60°

•	Fifth pass to 10°

13. Install the inlet manifold brace. Refer to Inlet Manifold Brace Installation .
14. Install the generator adjust bracket. Refer to Generator Adjust Bracket Installation .
15. Install the engine coolant thermostat. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → 1.6L LXT,L2W → 2.0L Diesel LLW → 1.6L LDE, LXV, LUW, 2H0 .
16. Install the timing belt rear cover. Refer to Timing Belt Rear Cover Replacement .
17. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → 1.6L LXT,L2W → 2.0L Diesel LLW → 1.6L LDE, LXV, 1.8L 2H0, and LUW .
18. Install the camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement .
19. Close the bonnet.
