Crankshaft Balancer Replacement

Special Tools

    • EN-50430 Pin - Balancer Locking
    • EN-50431 Adaptor - Backlash Measurement

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove upper sump. Refer to Upper Sump Replacement .

  3. Remove and DISCARD the 4 balancer retaining bolts (2).
  4. Remove the balancer (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Set the piston of cylinder 1 to TDC of combustion stroke.

  2. 2511707
  3. Install the EN-50430 locking pin (1) and lock the gear of the balancer (2).

  5. Install the balancer (1) to the lower crankcase.
  6. Note: Install the balancer retaining bolts in a cross sequence.

  7. Install the 4 NEW balancer retaining bolts (2). Hand-tighten the bolts (2) so that the balancer (1) stays slidable without clearance on the lower crankcase.
  8. Remove the EN-50430 locking pin .

  10. Push the balancer (1) to the exhaust side of the engine.
  11. Install a dial gauge (2) at the inlet side of the balancer.
  12. Set the dial gauge to zero.

  14. Set screwdriver (1) into the exhaust side as shown and push the balancer (2) 1.1 mm (0.0433 in) to the inlet side.
  15. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

    Note: Tighten the balancer retaining bolts in a cross sequence.

  16. Tighten the NEW balancer bolts to 20 N·m  (15 lb ft).
  17. Check the balancer backlash specifications. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Cleaning and Inspection .
  18. Tighten the balancer bolts to 50 N·m +90° (37 lb ft + 90°).
  19. Install the upper oil sump . Refer to Upper Sump Replacement .
