Handbrake Shoe Inspection

Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
2. Remove the tyre and wheel assembly. Refer to Tyre and Wheel Removal and Installation .
3. Remove the rear brake calliper bracket with the rear brake calliper. Refer to Rear Brake Calliper Bracket Replacement .

Note: DO NOT apply the park brake pedal with the rotors removed.

4. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement .
5. Inspect and replace the park brake shoe and lining if any of the following conditions are found:

•	Excessive wear indicated by the park brake lining being worn down to the shoe

•	Park brake lining cracking

•	Oil or fluid contamination of the park brake lining

6. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Handbrake Adjustment .
7. Install the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement .
8. Install the rear brake calliper with the rear brake calliper bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Calliper Bracket Replacement .
9. Install the tyre and wheel assembly. Refer to Tyre and Wheel Removal and Installation .
10. Lower the vehicle.
