Steering Wheel Position Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Steering Column in Lock Position Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and LOCK the steering column.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  4. Remove the left front tyre and wheel assembly. Refer to Tyre and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  5. Use paint in order to place match marks on the intermediate shaft and on the lower portion of the steering column shaft.

  7. Remove the upper pinch bolt.
  8. Remove the intermediate shaft from the steering column shaft.

  10. Disconnect the connector from the steering angle sensor.
  11. Move the steering angle sensor upward.

  13. Remove the steering angle sensor by turning the sensor out of the retaining bracket slot and sliding the sensor down the steering column shaft.

Installation Procedure

  1. Slide the steering angle sensor up the steering column shaft until the sensor is on the retaining bracket slot.
  2. Install the steering angle sensor into the groove of the retaining bracket.
  3. Connect the connector to the steering angle sensor.

    Note: Ensure the steering wheel is in the straight-ahead position.

  5. Align the match marks and carefully guide the universal joint of the intermediate shaft onto steering column shaft.
  6. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  7. Install the pinch bolt into the universal joint on the intermediate shaft and tighten to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).
  8. Install the left front tyre and wheel assembly. Refer to Tyre and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  11. Perform the steering angle sensor centring procedure. Refer to Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centring .
