1. Door Ajar Indicator Inoperative
2. Door Ajar Indicator Always On
|
Circuit/System Description
The door ajar switches supply a ground to the BCM when the door is open. Once the door is closed the door ajar switch opens removing the ground to the BCM. The BCM sends a signal to the instrument panel cluster to illuminate the door ajar indicator when a door is open.

Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition ON, observe the instrument panel cluster driver door ajar indicator while opening and closing the driver door. The indicator should turn ON when the door is open and turn OFF when the door is closed
⇒ | If the indicator is always ON or always OFF, refer to Driver Door Ajar Malfunction |
- Observe the instrument panel cluster passenger door ajar indicator while opening and closing the passenger, left rear and right rear doors. The indicator should turn ON a door is open and turn OFF when a door is closed.
⇒ | If the indicator is always ON or always OFF, refer to Passenger Door Ajar Malfunction. |
Circuit/System Testing
Driver Door Ajar Malfunction
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the wiring harness plug at the driver door latch.
- Test for less than 1Ω between the ground circuit terminal listed below and ground:
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
- Ignition ON, verify the instrument panel cluster driver door ajar indicator is OFF.
⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM. |
- Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal listed below and the ground. Verify the instrument panel cluster driver door ajar indicator is ON.
⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM. |
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the driver door latch.
Passenger Door Ajar Malfunction
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch.
- Test for less than 1.0 Ω between the ground circuit terminal listed below and ground.
• | Left rear door latch ground circuit terminal 6 |
• | Right rear door latch ground circuit terminal 3 |
• | RHD passenger door latch ground circuit terminal 8 |
• | LHD passenger door latch ground circuit terminal 3 |
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
- Ignition ON, verify the instrument panel cluster passenger door ajar indicator is OFF.
⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM. |
• | Left rear door latch signal circuit terminal 4 |
• | Right rear door latch signal circuit terminal 1 |
• | RHD passenger door latch signal circuit terminal 6 |
• | LHD passenger door latch signal circuit terminal 1 |
- Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal listed below and ground. Verify the instrument panel cluster passenger door ajar indicator is ON.
• | Left rear door latch signal circuit terminal 4 |
• | Right rear door latch signal circuit terminal 1 |
• | RHD passenger door latch signal circuit terminal 6 |
• | LHD passenger door latch signal circuit terminal 1 |
⇒ | If not the specified value, test the appropriate signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM. |
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the door latch
Component Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch.
- With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal and the ground terminals listed below:
• | Driver door latch signal circuit terminal 7 and ground circuit terminal 8 |
• | Left rear door latch signal circuit terminal 4 and ground circuit terminal 6 |
• | Right rear door latch signal circuit terminal 1 and ground circuit terminal 3 |
• | Passenger door latch signal circuit terminal 1 and ground circuit terminal 3 |
⇒ | If not the specified value, replace the door latch. |
- With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 2 Ω between the signal and the ground terminals listed below:
• | Driver door latch signal circuit terminal 7 and ground circuit terminal 8 |
• | Left rear door latch signal circuit terminal 4 and ground circuit terminal 6 |
• | Right rear door latch signal circuit terminal 1 and ground circuit terminal 3 |
• | Passenger door latch signal circuit terminal 1 and ground circuit terminal 3 |
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, replace the door latch. |
