Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement — RHD

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Using a suitable tool, remove the brake fluid from the brake master cylinder reservoir.
  2. Discard the brake fluid into an approved container.
  3. Remove the inlet manifold cover, refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement : LE5 or LE9 (2.4L), or Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (3.0L), or the engine sight shield Engine Sight Shield Replacement (2.0L, 2.2L Diesel).
  4. If equipped with the 3.0L engine, remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement .
  5. Without disconnecting the hoses, remove and position aside the power steering fluid reservoir, if necessary. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .
  6. Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.

    Note: Do not reuse the master cylinder reservoir pins.

  8. Remove and discard the master cylinder reservoir pins (1).

  10. Carefully remove the master cylinder reservoir (1) by pulling the reservoir straight up.

  12. Remove the master cylinder reservoir seals (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Lightly lubricate the master cylinder reservoir seals with GM approved brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container.
  2. Install the master cylinder reservoir seals (1).

  4. Install the master cylinder reservoir (1) to the master cylinder.
  5. Ensure the master cylinder reservoir bayonets are fully seated in the master cylinder.

  7. Install new master cylinder reservoir pins (1).
  8. Ensure the master cylinder reservoir pins are fully seated and the locking tabs are fully deployed.
  9. Connect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.
  10. Fill the master cylinder reservoir. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling .
  11. If removed, install the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .
  12. If equipped with the 3.0L engine, install the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement .
  13. Install the inlet manifold cover, refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement : LE5 or LE9 (2.4L), or Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (3.0L), or the engine sight shield Engine Sight Shield Replacement (2.0L, 2.2L Diesel).
  14. Observe the brake pedal feel after filling the master cylinder reservoir. If the pedal feels spongy, bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding : Manual  → Pressure .
