Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement — RHD
Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning in the Preface section.
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution in the Preface section.
- Using a suitable tool, remove the brake fluid from the brake master cylinder reservoir.
- Discard the brake fluid into an approved container.
- Remove the inlet manifold cover, refer to
Intake Manifold Cover Replacement : LE5 or LE9 (2.4L), or Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (3.0L), or the engine sight shield Engine Sight Shield Replacement (2.0L, 2.2L Diesel).
- If equipped with the 3.0L engine, remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement .
- Without disconnecting the hoses, remove and position aside the power steering fluid reservoir, if necessary. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .
- Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.
Note: Do not reuse the master cylinder reservoir pins.
- Remove and discard the master cylinder reservoir pins (1).
- Carefully remove the master cylinder reservoir (1) by pulling the reservoir straight up.
- Remove the master cylinder reservoir seals (1).
Installation Procedure
- Lightly lubricate the master cylinder reservoir seals with GM approved brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container.
- Install the master cylinder reservoir seals (1).
- Install the master cylinder reservoir (1) to the master cylinder.
- Ensure the master cylinder reservoir bayonets are fully seated in the master cylinder.
- Install new master cylinder reservoir pins (1).
- Ensure the master cylinder reservoir pins are fully seated and the locking tabs are fully deployed.
- Connect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.
- Fill the master cylinder reservoir. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling .
- If removed, install the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .
- If equipped with the 3.0L engine, install the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement .
- Install the inlet manifold cover, refer to
Intake Manifold Cover Replacement : LE5 or LE9 (2.4L), or Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (3.0L), or the engine sight shield Engine Sight Shield Replacement (2.0L, 2.2L Diesel).
- Observe the brake pedal feel after filling the master cylinder reservoir. If the pedal feels spongy, bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding : Manual → Pressure .
