Master Cylinder Replacement — RHD
Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning in the Preface section.
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution in the Preface section.
- Using a suitable tool, remove the brake fluid from the brake master cylinder reservoir.
- Discard the brake fluid into an approved container.
- Remove the inlet manifold cover, refer to
Intake Manifold Cover Replacement : LE5 or LE9 (2.4L), or Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (3.0L), or the engine sight shield Engine Sight Shield Replacement (2.0L, 2.2L Diesel).
- If equipped with the 3.0L engine, remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement .
- Without disconnecting the hoses, remove and position aside the power steering fluid reservoir, if necessary. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .
- Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.
- Disconnect the secondary master cylinder brake pipe fitting (1).
- Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the master cylinder outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
- Disconnect the primary master cylinder brake pipe fitting (2).
- Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the master cylinder outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
- Remove the master cylinder nuts (1).
- Remove the master cylinder.
Installation Procedure
- If installing a new master cylinder, bench bleed the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Bench Bleeding .
- Install the master cylinder to the power vacuum brake booster.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the master cylinder nuts (1) and tighten to 13 N·m (115 lb in).
- Install the secondary master cylinder brake pipe fitting (1) and tighten the fitting to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Install the primary master cylinder brake pipe fitting (2) and tighten the fitting to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Connect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.
- Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding : Manual → Pressure .
- If removed, install the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .
- If equipped with the 3.0L engine, install the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement .
- Install the inlet manifold cover, refer to
Intake Manifold Cover Replacement : LE5 or LE9 (2.4L), or Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (3.0L), or the engine sight shield Engine Sight Shield Replacement (2.0L, 2.2L Diesel).
