Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement - V6

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
  3. Remove engine shield. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement .
  4. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  5. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
  6. Remove the air conditioning compressor hose. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement : Diesel → L4 → V6

A/C Compressor Bolts (Qty 4)

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tip
Tighten the A/C compressor mounting bolts in sequence.

Tighten
58 N·m (43 lb ft)

A/C Compressor

  1. Replacement of the desiccant cartridge is required upon new compressor replacement.
  2. Install suction screen after a major compressor failure.

Tip

    • Use a low viscosity, polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil. Use of the incorrect oil can result in compressor failure.
    • When replacing the A/C compressor, balance the compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing
    • Using J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector leak test A/C compressor fittings.
