Engine Flywheel Replacement - LE5 or LE9

Special Tools

    • EN-38122-A Crankshaft Balancer Holder
    • EN-45059 Angle Meter

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools : LE5 or LE9 .

Removal Procedure

  1. If equipped with a automatic transaxle, remove the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Replacement : With 2.4 Engine  → With 3.0 Engine  → With Diesel Engine .
  2. If equipped with a manual transaxle, remove the clutch. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement : Diesel Engine  → 2.4 Engine .
  3. Using the EN-38122-A holder , hold the crankshaft balancer.

    Note: It may be necessary to remove the chamfer (bevel) from the edge of an 18 mm socket in order to get full engagement on the thin-headed flywheel bolts.

  5. Remove and discard the automatic transaxle flywheel bolts, if equipped.
  6. Note: Do not orientate the flywheel to the crankshaft. It is balanced separately from the engine.

  7. Remove the automatic transaxle flywheel, if equipped.

  11. Remove the manual transaxle flywheel, if equipped.
  12. Clean the thread adhesive from the flywheel bolt holes. Use a nylon bristle brush to clean the holes in the crankshaft.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the manual transaxle flywheel, if equipped.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the NEW manual transaxle flywheel bolts, if equipped. Tighten the bolts to 53 N·m (39 lb ft) plus an additional 25 degrees using the EN-45059 meter .

  5. Install the automatic transaxle flywheel, if equipped.
  6. Install the NEW automatic transaxle flywheel bolts, if equipped. Tighten the bolts to 53 N·m (39 lb ft) plus an additional 25 degrees using the EN-45059 meter .
  7. Remove the EN-38122-A holder .
  8. If equipped with a manual transaxle, install the clutch. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement : Diesel Engine  → 2.4 Engine .
  9. If equipped with a automatic transaxle, install the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Replacement : With 2.4 Engine  → With 3.0 Engine  → With Diesel Engine .
