Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the rear tyre and wheel assembly. Refer to Tyre and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement .

  5. Remove the wheel drive shaft nut, if equipped Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .
  6. If equipped with antilock brakes (ABS), remove the rear wheel speed sensor. Refer to Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement .
  7. Support the wheel drive shaft with heavy mechanics wire, or equivalent.
  8. Support the disc brake backing plate and the park brake assembly with heavy mechanics wire, or equivalent.

  10. Remove the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts.

  12. Remove the wheel bearing/hub assembly from the knuckle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the wheel bearing/hub assembly to the knuckle.
  2. Using the an approved cleaner, remove the old threadlocker from the bolts.
  3. Note: Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installation.

  4. Apply the threadlocker on 2/3 of the bolt.
  5. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  6. Install the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts and tighten to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).

  8. Install the wheel drive shaft nut, if removed. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .
  9. If equipped with ABS, install the rear wheel speed sensor. Refer to Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement .
  10. Install the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement .
  11. Install the rear tyre and wheel assembly. Refer to Tyre and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  12. Lower the vehicle.
