Power Steering Pump Replacement

Removal Procedure

  1. Place drain pans under the vehicle.
  2. Remove as much power steering fluid from the reservoir as possible.
  3. Disconnect the accessory drive belt only from the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement : LE5 or LE9 .
  4. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement : LE5 or LE9 .
  5. Caution: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Caution in the Preface section.

  6. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the supply hose from the power steering pump.
  7. Loosen the fitting and disconnect the pressure pipe from the pump.

  9. Remove the bolt from the right front side of the pump.
  10. Loosen the right rear bolt.
  11. Swing the bracket out of the way.

  13. Remove the 2 long power steering pump bolts and remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the power steering pump in the vehicle.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the 2 long power steering pump bolts and tighten to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  5. Swing the power steering pump bracket down.
  6. Install the right front side bolt and tighten to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
  7. Caution: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Caution in the Preface section.

  8. Connect the supply hose to the pump. Secure the hose with the hose clamp.
  9. Connect the pressure pipe to the pump and tighten the fitting to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).
  10. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement : LE5 or LE9 .
  11. Connect the accessory drive belt to the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement : LE5 or LE9 .
  12. Caution: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Caution in the Preface section.

  13. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  14. Caution: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Caution in the Preface section.

  15. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  16. Clean any excess power steering fluid from the vehicle.
  17. Remove the drain pans.
