Power Steering Return Hose Replacement — 2.4L
Removal Procedure
Note: The left-hand drive model is shown. The right-hand drive model is similar.
- Syphon the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
- Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch the power steering fluid.
- Remove the bolts from the reservoir.
Caution: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Caution in the Preface section.
- Loosen the hose clamp and remove the return hose from the fluid reservoir.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to
Front Pipe Replacement : LNQ → LF1 → LE5 .
- Remove the transaxle rear mount assembly. Refer to
Transmission Rear Mount Replacement : AWD → FWD .
- If the vehicle has all wheel drive (AWD), remove the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
- Remove fitting and the return pipe from the power steering gear outlet.
- Remove the return pipe from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Caution: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Caution in the Preface section.
- Route the return pipe/hose from the reservoir to the power steering gear.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the return pipe and the fitting to the power steering gear outlet and tighten the return pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- If the vehicle has AWD, install the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
- Install the transaxle rear mount assembly. Refer to
Transmission Rear Mount Replacement : AWD → FWD .
- Install the front exhaust pipe. Refer to
Front Pipe Replacement : LNQ → LF1 → LE5 .
- Install the return hose and the hose clamp to the reservoir.
- Install the bolts to the reservoir and tighten to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
Caution: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Caution in the Preface section.
- Fill the reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
Caution: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Caution in the Preface section.
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
- Inspect for leaks. If there are leaks, correct the cause of the leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
- Lower the vehicle.
