Steering Gear Pipe and Seal Replacement
Removal Procedure
Note: The left-hand drive model is shown. The right-hand drive model is similar.
- Syphon the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the exhaust front pipe. Refer to
Front Pipe Replacement : LNQ → LF1 → LE5 .
- Remove the transaxle rear mount. Refer to
Transmission Rear Mount Replacement : AWD → FWD .
- If equipped, remove the transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
- Loosen the fittings and disconnect the steering gear pipes from the steering gear at the valve end.
- Loosen the fittings and disconnect the steering gear pipes from the steering gear at the cylinder end.
- Remove the steering gear pipes from the vehicle.
- Discard the O-ring seals if necessary.
Installation Procedure
- Replace the O-ring seals if necessary.
Caution: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Caution in the Preface section.
- Lubricate the O-ring seals with power steering fluid.
- Place the O-ring seals into the housing.
- Position the steering gear pipes on the steering gear.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Connect the steering gear pipes to the steering gear at the valve end and tighten the fittings to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).
- Connect the steering gear pipes to the steering gear at the cylinder end and tighten the fittings to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).
- If equipped, install the transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
- Install the transaxle rear mount. Refer to
Transmission Rear Mount Replacement : AWD → FWD .
- Install the exhaust front pipe. Refer to
Front Pipe Replacement : LNQ → LF1 → LE5 .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the fluid reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
Caution: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Caution in the Preface section.
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
