Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement

Removal Procedure

    Note: The left-hand drive model is shown. The right-hand drive model is similar.

  1. Place drain pans under the vehicle in order to catch the power steering fluid.
  2. Remove as much power steering fluid from the reservoir as possible.
  3. Caution: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Caution in the Preface section.

  4. Loosen the fitting and disconnect the pressure pipe from the pump.

  6. Remove the pressure pipe bracket bolt from the generator.
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  8. Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Front Pipe Replacement : LNQ  → LF1  → LE5 .
  9. Remove the transaxle rear mount assembly. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement : AWD  → FWD .
  10. If the vehicle has all wheel drive (AWD), remove the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .

  12. Loosen the fitting and disconnect the pressure pipe from the steering gear.
  13. Remove the pressure pipe from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Route the pressure pipe from the power steering pump to the steering gear.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Connect the pressure pipe to the steering gear and tighten the fitting to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).
  4. If the vehicle has AWD, install the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
  5. Install the transaxle rear mount assembly. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement : AWD  → FWD .
  6. Install the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Front Pipe Replacement : LNQ  → LF1  → LE5 .

  8. Install the pressure pipe bracket bolt to the alternator and tighten to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  10. Connect the pressure pipe to the power steering pump and tighten the fitting to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).
  11. Caution: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Caution in the Preface section.

  12. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  13. Caution: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Caution in the Preface section.

  14. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  15. Clean any excess power steering fluid from the vehicle.
  16. Remove the drain pans.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
