Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement
Removal Procedure
Note: The left-hand drive model is shown. The right-hand drive model is similar.
- Place drain pans under the vehicle in order to catch the power steering fluid.
- Remove as much power steering fluid from the reservoir as possible.
Caution: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Caution in the Preface section.
- Loosen the fitting and disconnect the pressure pipe from the pump.
- Remove the pressure pipe bracket bolt from the generator.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to
Front Pipe Replacement : LNQ → LF1 → LE5 .
- Remove the transaxle rear mount assembly. Refer to
Transmission Rear Mount Replacement : AWD → FWD .
- If the vehicle has all wheel drive (AWD), remove the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
- Loosen the fitting and disconnect the pressure pipe from the steering gear.
- Remove the pressure pipe from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Caution: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Caution in the Preface section.
- Route the pressure pipe from the power steering pump to the steering gear.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Connect the pressure pipe to the steering gear and tighten the fitting to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).
- If the vehicle has AWD, install the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
- Install the transaxle rear mount assembly. Refer to
Transmission Rear Mount Replacement : AWD → FWD .
- Install the front exhaust pipe. Refer to
Front Pipe Replacement : LNQ → LF1 → LE5 .
- Install the pressure pipe bracket bolt to the alternator and tighten to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Connect the pressure pipe to the power steering pump and tighten the fitting to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).
Caution: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Caution in the Preface section.
- Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
Caution: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Caution in the Preface section.
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
- Clean any excess power steering fluid from the vehicle.
- Remove the drain pans.
- Lower the vehicle.
