Cylinder Head Replacement

1. Remove the engine out of the vehicle. Refer to Engine Replacement .



2. Remove the turbocharger upper retaining nuts (1).
3. Remove the turbocharger lower retaining nuts (2).
4. Remove the turbocharger (3) and gasket (4). Refer to Turbocharger Removal .



5. Remove the exhaust manifold mounting bolts (1).
6. Remove the exhaust manifold (2) and gasket (3). Refer to Exhaust Manifold Removal .



7. Remove the intake manifold assembly retaining bolts (1) and nuts (2).
8. Remove the intake manifold assembly (3). Refer to Inlet Manifold Removal .



9. Remove the oil filter adapter bolts (2).
10. Remove the oil filter adapter (3). Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Removal .



11. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) line.
12. Remove the camshaft cover mounting bolts (1).
13. Remove the camshaft cover (2) and gasket (3). Refer to Camshaft Cover Removal .



14. Remove the Intake camshaft cap bolts (1).

Note: Mark the camshaft cap position sequence.

15. Remove the intake camshaft caps (2).
16. Remove the intake camshaft (3). Refer to Intake Camshaft Removal .



17. Remove the cylinder head mounting bolts (1).
18. Remove the cylinder head (2) and gasket (3). Refer to Cylinder Head and Gasket Removal .
19. For cylinder head disassembly, refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble .
20. For cylinder head cleaning and inspection, refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection .

1. Install the cylinder head (2) and new gasket (3).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Note: Always use new cylinder head bolts.

2. Install the cylinder head mounting bolts (1). Refer to Cylinder Head and Gasket Installation .

Tighten the cylinder head mounting bolts to 30 N·m plus 100 N·m (22 lb ft plus 74 lb ft) plus 90 degrees.




3. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown.




Note: Take extreme care to prevent any scratches or damage to the camshafts.

4. Install the intake camshaft (3). Refer to Intake Camshaft Installation .
5. Install the exhaust camshaft. Refer to Exhaust Camshaft Installation .



6. Install the camshaft cover (2) and gasket (3). Refer to Camshaft Cover Installation .




Note: To facilitate installation, set 2 EN-50435 guide pins on the cylinder head before installation.

7. Install the exhaust manifold (2) and new gasket (3). Refer to Exhaust Manifold Installation .



8. Install the turbocharger (3) and new gasket (4). Refer to Turbocharger Installation .



9. Install the intake manifold assembly (3). Refer to Inlet Manifold Installation .



10. Install the oil filter adapter (3) to the engine block. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Installation .



11. Install the engine. Refer to Engine Replacement .
